  1. The Original Spanish "La Bamba" Lyrics

    Para bailar la bamba
    Para bailar la bamba
Se necesita una poca de gracia
Una poca de gracia para mi para ti
    Arriba y arriba
    Arriba y arriba
    Por ti seré
    Por ti seré
    Yo no soy marinero
    Yo no soy marinero
    Soy capitán
    Soy capitán
    Soy capitán

    "La Bamba" translation into English

In order to dance the Bamba
In order to dance the Bamba
    A little humor is needed
A little humor for me and for you
    Faster and faster
    Faster and faster
    I'll be for you
    I'll be for you
    I'm not a sailor
    I'm not a sailor
    I'm captain
    I'm captain
    I'm captain

  2. "La Bamba" was first written by Ritchie Valens and released in October of 1958. It is a Mexican folk song, from the state of Veracruz. The song was originally played at many Mexican weddings, where the bride and groom would perform the accompanying dance. The dance to "La Bamba" is called "zapateado." It has upbeat footwork that continues to grow faster throughout the song.
"La Bamba" climbed the charts to number one song in the US when the band Los Lobos recreated the original song. "La Bamba" reveals a lot about the Mexican culture. The the song is upbeat and is easy to dance to. In Mexican history, dance is a big part of their tradition. The instruments in the song are common to the Mexican culture. They are the harp and relatives to the guitar called the "jarana jorocha" and the"requinto jarocho."
I chose this song because it was not only popular in the Mexican culture, but has also made its way to the top hits in American and it is widely recognized. I was also interested to learn the meaning of the lyrics.
